BOCA RATON, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — Izair Smith of Boca Raton is in jail facing several charges including burglary and possession of a firearm, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Izair Smith, 19, of the 100 block of Hidden Valley Boulevard in Boca Raton, has been arrested by the Boca Raton Police Department. According to the arrest affidavit reviewed by Boca Post, officers observed Smith opening unlocked doors and entering vehicles in east Boca Raton near Coventry Street.

Police say that they responded to a call about a suspicious person in the area at about 10:30 PM on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 where they were then able to observe Smith ducking down as he approached the unoccupied vehicles. Officers say that heard the sound of multiple vehicle doors opening and closing, coming from the vicinity Smith was at.

As officers approached the area, they observed a silver Toyota Tacoma with its front passenger door opened with Smith inside the vehicle. An officer approached and saw Smith rummaging through the vehicle and ordered Smith to come out of the vehicle and show his hands.

Smith was placed in handcuffs and patted down for weapons. In the rear right pocket of Smith’s jeans was a brown wallet with various credit cards. When asked if he had any firearms, Smith replied yes and advised it was in his waistband. Smith stated it was a custom-built handgun (tan with a black magazine, no serial numbers, no ammunition). The custom firearm was placed into evidence.

Smith claimed that the firearm we located on his waistband was his. He explained how he purchased the lower receiver online on eBay, which he built himself. Police note that it was a fully functioning firearm. Smith admitted he was burglarizing the vehicles while in possession of the firearm.

According to Smith, he went out for a walk because he was “bored” so he decided to pull on vehicle door handles looking for items to steal. Smith also mentioned that the Super Glue was found in his jean pocket, which he used to place on his fingertips to avoid getting his fingerprints on the vehicles he burglarized. Smith admitted that he took the following from several vehicles:

  • Cash ($12.00)
  • A brown wallet containing various credit cards
  • A Zip-Lock style baggie with an unknown brown powder
  • A backpack containing a Silver Mac Book Air
