DELRAY BEACH, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2025) — Delray Beach is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated public servants — retired K-9 Benny, who passed away on Thursday.

Benny, badge number 1062, was born on October 10, 2011, in the Czech Republic and joined the Delray Beach Police Department in March 2013. Paired with Officer Ryan Frazier, the Belgian Malinois–German Shepherd mix quickly proved himself to be an exceptional asset to the department.

Over eight years of service, Benny helped take more than 110 suspects into custody, including several wanted for violent felonies. His ability to detect human scent and locate hidden narcotics and firearms made him one of the most effective K-9s in the department’s history. His skill and determination earned him the department’s Officer of the Month award after tracking down a suspect who had stolen a weapon from a police vehicle and disappeared into the night.

But Benny’s legacy extends far beyond the arrests and evidence finds. Alongside Officer Frazier, he became a familiar face at countless K-9 demonstrations and community events, giving residents a firsthand look at the trust and teamwork that define a police dog and handler relationship.

After his retirement in October 2021, Benny settled into a quieter life with the Frazier family. Gone were the long nights of patrols and tracking—replaced instead by days spent lounging in his favorite backyard, soaking up the Florida sun and the affection of those who had always been by his side.

“K-9 Benny will always be remembered as a loyal partner, a protector, and a beloved member of the Delray Beach Police Department family,” the department shared in its announcement. “Thank you for your dedicated service, Benny. Rest easy, good boy.”

Benny’s passing marks the end of a chapter for the Delray Beach Police Department, but his spirit—and his service—will be remembered for years to come.

The loss comes just a day after the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of retired K-9 Bert, another beloved service dog remembered for his years of dedication
