CORAL SPRINGS, FL (Boca Post) — A Coral Springs woman was knocked down and run over by a Broward County Transit bus at the Broward County bus depot located at 101 NW 1st Ave in Fort Lauderdale.

Broward Sheriff’s Office tells Boca Post that Maria Zevallos, 56, from Coral Springs, has died after being run over by a Broward County Transit bus.

From Broward Sheriff’s Office:

On Thursday morning, Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a fatal collision involving a Broward County Transit bus and a pedestrian.
According to investigators, at approximately 6:47 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, a Broward County Transit bus entered the Broward County bus depot at 101 N.W. First Ave. in Fort Lauderdale and prepared to turn into Aisle B. At the same time, pedestrian Maria Zevallos was crossing the roadway within the depot on the southern side of Aisle B, crossing from east to west. The front passenger side of the bus struck Zevallos and her foot was run over by the front passenger side tire, causing her to fall to the ground. As the bus turned, the driver slowed to a stop, and Zevallos was struck by the rear passenger tire of the bus.
Fort Lauderdale Police responded and secured the scene. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue also responded and pronounced Zevallos deceased.
Mechanical malfunction is not considered a contributing factor in this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The driver of the bus was identified as 51-year-old Deerfield Beach resident Ann Marie Baker-Kennerly.
