The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is currently looking into a shooting incident that took place in Lauderhill involving a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Lauderhill Police Department officer on Wednesday evening of February 12th around 5;54 PM at the Calypso Cay apartments located on Northwest 21st Street, in Lauderhill where members of law enforcement agencies were carrying out an operation. During the incident two men with guns confronted two law enforcement officers. Aimed their weapons at them. A deputy, from the BSO drew his gun identified himself as a law enforcement officer and instructed the men to drop their firearms and lie down on the ground. However both individuals did not follow the orders given. Subsequently both men shot at the officers prompting the officers to return fire. One of the individuals named Tafari Elliot was hit and ran away. The other man also fled from the scene. Officers who arrived at the apartment complex apprehended Elliot. Promptly administered medical assistance before transferring him to Broward Health Medical Center for further treatment. The other individual successfully eluded law enforcement without causing harm to any officers involved in the confrontation. At the location of the incident investigators recovered a firearm. Are currently investigating the details surrounding the shooting. The FDLE is looking into the use of force in this situation; meanwhile BSOs Criminal Investigations Division is looking into Elliot and the persons criminal behaviors. Elliot has been charged with two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. Is currently, in the hospital. Following BSO protocol the deputy who discharged his weapon has been assigned to duties while they conduct a further investigation.
