BROWARD COUNTY, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2024) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office has introduced a new Research, Development and Training Center. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. On Thursday, July 11, 2024.

Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the dedicated members of BSO mark a significant milestone in its 109 year history with the opening of the state of the art Research, Development and Training Center (R.D.T.C.). The center is meticulously designed to enhance first responders readiness by providing specialized training rooms, simulation labs and tactical firing ranges that simulate real life situations to improve decision making skills and tactical preparedness.

The R.D.T.C. Comprises essential elements such as:

  • Two tactical firing ranges spanning 50 yards each, equipped with bay doors for vehicle access to facilitate realistic exercises like vehicle takedowns and active shooter drills.
  • A two story shoot house with adaptable layouts for diverse scenarios, including inmate extractions by the Department of Detention.
  • A room for defensive tactics training where first responders can practice hands on techniques to defuse potential use of force situations.
  • EMS simulation labs to improve the preparedness and medical skills of firefighter/paramedics in emergency response situations.
  • A rappelling tower for SWAT and fire rescue teams to train for handling structural fires or rescues in multi story buildings.
  • A 22,000 square foot facility dedicated to strength and conditioning aimed at maintaining the mental and physical well being of employees at their peak performance levels.
  • Three spacious classrooms that can be customized to support ongoing educational and professional growth of employees.

“While the R.D.T.C. Symbolizes innovation and advancement, our primary goal remains the safety and security of the entire Broward County community. The lobby features a poignant memorial honoring the 17 victims of the tragic Parkland mass shooting,” stated Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony.

“This is a gentle nudge to remember the passion that drew us to this field and the importance of constantly seeking improvement and pushing ourselves beyond what we thought possible.”
