PEMBROKE PARK, FL – Boca Post (BocaPost.com) — Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle crash that occurred in Pembroke Park Tuesday morning.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:09 a.m., Broward County Regional Communications received a crash call near the northbound exit ramp of Interstate 95 and eastbound Pembroke Road. According to investigators, Pembroke Park Police Department and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded.

The preliminary investigation revealed Joseph J. Dorleans was traveling eastbound in a 2015 Nissan Altima on Pembroke Road when he ran a red light and struck a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Andrew Harvey. Investigators say Harvey was making a left turn to proceed westbound on Pembroke Road after exiting Interstate 95 when the collision occurred.

The crash’s impact caused Harvey’s Hyundai to rotate and come to a final rest a short distance from the collision site, while the Nissan continued eastbound into the median, struck a tree, and came to a final rest. Dorleans, the driver of the Nissan, was pronounced deceased on the scene by paramedics.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are being investigated by BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit at the request of the Pembroke Park Police Department. BSO detectives noted in their report that excessive speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.
