Today's Weather - Sunday, May 24, 2026

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — Breezy southeast winds will be noticeable today, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 86. A brief shower is possible this morning, and a spotty shower or thunderstorm could pop up late morning into mid-afternoon, but most neighborhoods stay dry. Tonight remains warm and breezy with a low near 81 and only a small chance of a passing shower. If you’re heading to the beach, use extra caution: the rip current risk is high and expected to stay elevated through Tuesday evening

South Florida’s weather pattern is staying fairly steady to start this Sunday, and that’s good news if you’re hoping for more sun than storms. The National Weather Service notes high pressure at the surface and a strong ridge of warmer air aloft are both in control.

In plain terms, that setup tends to cap widespread thunderstorm growth and keeps rain chances limited for the Atlantic side of the metro area, including Boca Raton. The other big driver today is wind direction.

With an east-southeast breeze, the Atlantic sea breeze pushes inland faster and farther than usual. That typically shifts the best chance for afternoon showers and storms away from the immediate coast and toward interior and Gulf-side areas.

Forecast guidance reflects that: Boca Raton’s rain chance stays low (around 20%), while coverage is higher farther west. Even with lower odds, any storm that does form can still bring a quick burst of heavy rain, frequent lightning, and a few gusty winds.

Boaters and beachgoers will feel the onshore push. Winds over the Atlantic waters near Boca Raton run from the southeast around 15 to 20 knots today and tonight, with choppy conditions in the Intracoastal in exposed areas.

Seas hold around 3 to 4 feet, occasionally up to 5 feet, and may build to 4 to 5 feet (occasionally 6 feet) early this week. A “Small Craft Should Exercise Caution” headline is posted for the local Atlantic waters.

The beach forecast remains the bigger safety issue: a high risk of rip currents continues along the Atlantic coast through Tuesday evening. Winds and seas can jump higher near any thunderstorm.

Current Advisories / Watches / Warnings

  • High Rip Current Risk through Tuesday evening for FLZ168-172-173.
  • Small Craft Should Exercise Caution (Coastal waters from Jupiter Inlet to Deerfield Beach out 20 NM and 20-60 NM).

7 Day Outlook

  • Sunday: Mostly sunny and breezy with a high near 86. Only a 20% chance of a quick shower or thunderstorm late morning into mid-afternoon. High rip current risk continues at Atlantic beaches.
  • Monday (Memorial Day): Mostly sunny, breezy, and warm near 87. Daytime rain chances stay low, but it will feel humid. Beach conditions remain hazardous with a high rip current risk through Tuesday evening.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny and breezy with a high near 87. A small chance of a shower, with a thunderstorm possible after late morning. More clouds and higher rain chances begin to show up Tuesday night.
  • Wednesday: Turning noticeably wetter. Mostly cloudy with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms possible, especially later in the day. High near 86, with downpours and lightning becoming more common.
  • Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after mid-afternoon, with a higher chance of widespread rain. High near 86. Plan for wet roads at times and keep an eye out for heavy rainfall bursts.
  • Friday: Another active day with showers and thunderstorms likely and a continued risk of heavy downpours. High near 87. Expect periods of rain rather than just isolated pop-up storms.
  • Saturday: Wettest-looking day of the stretch. Showers and thunderstorms are expected, and some storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 87; allow extra travel time and watch for ponding on roads.
