BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) (Copyright © 2026) — A Boca Raton man was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail after Florida Highway Patrol said he was found with a loaded handgun during a late-night pursuit in Palm Beach County that began as a request for assistance tied to an earlier Delray Beach police investigation.

Christopher Carrell Jones, 20, of Boca Raton, was arrested April 5 and charged with grand theft of a firearm, a felony. The arrest report lists his residence on Anchorage Way in Boca Raton and shows he was booked at Palm Beach County Corrections. The case is tied to an incident window that began shortly before 11:20 p.m. April 4.

The chase described in the report started after Lake Worth Regional Communications Center received a request for assistance from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office regarding a gray 2022 Nissan passenger car. Florida Highway Patrol wrote that the vehicle had fled earlier from Delray Beach Police Department officers and was later found near Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and North Congress Avenue in the West Palm Beach area.

According to the arrest report, troopers positioned marked patrol vehicles and attempted a traffic stop after a registration check identified the registered owner as a man with a suspended driver license and an active warrant for resisting an officer without violence. The driver, identified in the report as co-defendant Smith James Delicat, then maneuvered around patrol units and fled eastbound on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard, beginning a pursuit.

The report says the Nissan reached speeds above the posted limit, turned south on North Congress Avenue, then west onto State Road 704, also known as Okeechobee Boulevard, before heading north on Haverhill Road. Troopers wrote that the vehicle briefly lost control after striking a concrete curb in a vacant parking lot near Haverhill Road, then continued until law enforcement used two Precision Immobilization Technique maneuvers to stop it.

Once the vehicle was boxed in, the report says all occupants complied with verbal commands and a felony stop was conducted. Jones, identified as the rear passenger, was taken into custody along with front-seat passenger Juan Badette and driver Delicat.

A search of Jones, according to the report, found a loaded black Sig Sauer 9mm handgun in his waistband. Troopers wrote that a lawful inventory search of the Nissan then found a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm P320X pistol in the center console within immediate reach of the occupants.

The report states that a records check showed the firearm found in the console had been reported stolen in August 2022 by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Troopers wrote that after all three men were advised of their rights, each waived them and denied knowing about the guns. The report also states that all three were considered to be in constructive possession of the firearm found in the vehicle.

Jones and the other two men were transported first to Good Samaritan Medical Center for medical clearance and then to the Palm Beach County Jail, according to the report. Delicat was booked on multiple additional charges listed by troopers, including fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, resisting an officer without violence, violation of probation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and grand theft of a firearm. The report says Jones and Badette were also booked for grand theft of a firearm.

Court information listed on the arrest report points to the Palm Beach North County Courthouse in Palm Beach Gardens.

As with any arrest, the charge against Jones is an accusation at this stage, and the case will be resolved through the court process.
