Ryan Hussey Of West Boca Raton Charged With DUI, Hit-And-Run, And Refusing To Sign

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — Ryan Hussey of West Boca Raton has been arrested on several charges including DUI, Leaving the scene of an accident, and refusing to sign a citation, according to jail records released to Boca Post by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryan Hussey, 41, of the 11000 block of Coral Place in West Boca Raton, has been arrested early Sunday morning by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. Boca Post has been notified that Hussey is charged with the following:

  • DUI-UNLAW BLD ALCH – DUI DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OR PERSON OF ANOTHER
  • HIT AND RUN – LEAVE SCENE OF CRASH INVOLVE DAMAGE TO PROP
  • RESIST OFFICER – REFUSE TO ACCEPT SIGN CITATION OR POST BOND

According to the arrest affidavit submitted by the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Hussey was uncooperative and even combative during a traffic stop. Responding deputies and a DUI investigator were suspicious that Hussey may have been under the influence, the investigator writes:

Upon making contact with the defendant who was seated on the center median beside his vehicle, I immediately smelled an obvious odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage coming from his person. I observed the defendant’s eyes to be glassy, watery, and bloodshot. I also observed the defendant have slow and slurred speech. The defendant had a pale and flushed face. The defendant was also lethargic. The defendant was asked to step in front of my patrol car, as he stepped towards my patrol car he staggered to the side and had an unstable balance. I also observed the defendant sway as he stood normally without walking. He refused to comply with my initial orders to stand up and speak with me in front of my patrol car. He then stood up and initially refused to walk to the front of my patrol car.

He initially stated he did not drink any alcohol today than stated he may have drank 2 or 3 beers but wasn’t sure. He stated the beers were Natural Ice. He stated he was the driver of his Black Ford F-150 pickup truck at the time of the collision. He stated his wife and son were in the truck with him at the time of the crash. He also stated he is a pool maintenance worker and last worked yesterday.

Hussey was said to be combative at the testing facility, so the breath test was declared as a refusal “for everyone’s safety”.

Hussey was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail at 12:55 on Sunday morning where we were released hours later to his own recognizance.
