Update – 2/10/22

Robert Earl Lewis, 52, has been arrested in connection with the 12 recent burglaries in Boca Raton. We are still working out the details as PBSO processes the paperwork and get this him back to Palm Beach County.

PBSO tells Boca Post that Lewis has been arrested after an investigation involving BSO, PBSO, Boca Raton Police Department, and FHP. According to arrest records, Lewis was arrested in Deerfield Beach and is being charged with:

  • 3x Burglary Unoccupied Structure Unarmed
  • 2x Criminal Mischief ($200 under $1000)
  • 12x HOLDS for Palm Beach County (PBSO)

A PBSO Spokesperson is thanking the public for their assistance. It is unclear if the added media attention from local news sources like Boca Post helped in this apprehension. We will update this story with details as they become availble.

Original Story

BOCA RATON, FL (Boca Post) — A suspect is wanted for several smash and grab style burglaries to businesses across unincorporated Boca Raton.

The suspect in the image is believed to have been hitting Boca Raton businesses late at night. In all of the burglaries the suspect smashes the glass of the front door with a crowbar, hammer, brick, or some other blunt object.

PBSO believes that this man is responsible for at least 6 burglaries to businesses in the West Boca area since early November. While the cash registers appear to be the targets, the suspect doesn’t appear to be very organized in his methods. In this video of one of the burglaries, he had a hard time opening the cash register with nearby kitchen utensils:

From PBSO:

Since the late hours of November 2021, there have been 12 reported cases of business burglaries which appear to have been committed by the same suspect.

The 12 cases occurred on six separate dates.

In all of our cases thus far, entry has been made by smashing the glass of the front door by using a tool such as a crowbar/hammer/brick paver etc. and the cash registers are targeted.

The first occurred on 11/02/21 after 11pm.  The suspect targeted four businesses at two strip malls at the intersection of SW 18th Street/Palm Doro Road, Boca Raton.

The second occurred 12/06/21 at approximately 2:40 am.  He targeted two businesses on SW 18th Street, Boca Raton.

The third occurred on 12/22/21, during the early morning hours.  He targeted one business on SW 18th Street, Boca Raton.

The fourth occurred on 1/31/22, just before 1:00 am.  He targeted a business for the second time on SW 18th

Street, Boca Raton.

The fifth occurred on 2/02/22, at 1:45 am.  He targeted two businesses at 9181 Glades Road, Boca Raton.

The sixth occurred 2/05/22, 4:57 am.  He targeted a business at 9181 Glades Rd, Boca Raton (second time at this address) and at 6:20 am he targeted a business at 23261 SR 7, Boca Raton.
